GELATO CONE PUBLIC ART CONTEST
Calling all artists………..
Carpe Diem! is hosting a contest to replace its gelato and espresso signs on our patio’s outdoor column with local art to be displayed prominently. What says Italian gelato better than its signature cone? And what says downtown better than the display of local art.
We have therefore decided to replace the missing letters and words on the existing corner column with three large two or three dimensional cones depending on the artist’s vision. Now’s your chance to add to the charm of downtown and gain maximum exposure as folks turn our corner and visit the shop and Pop’s Poboys next door, not to mention the international exposure with visitors that come in and out of the International Center across the street.
The top three artists’ renditions will be chosen to be executed and then displayed on the column that graces the corner of Jefferson and Convent streets. So here are the details:
-Applications are going to be accepted now until December 31, 2017. Artist applications are to be dropped off in person at the shop. You may pick a blank form there or download online: http://www.carpediemgelato.com/cone-art-contest. Winners will be chosen for the New Year.
-There is also a space on the application to list the estimated cost of supplies for the final piece, for which Carpe Diem! will pay.
-Please consider that these pieces will be exposed to the elements 24/7, so all applications must also include a weatherproofing appropriate for the medium used to ensure the longevity of the finished piece.
-There will be a special Artwalk display of all entries at the January 2018 Artwalk to also include a children’s wall. We will happily accept children’s renditions on paper beginning January 2, 2018.
